Richard L. Mathers is a recognized educator in the behavioral and forensic sciences within the law enforcement community. Following 36 years of service with the F.B.I., Rick retired in October of 1999 and formed Rick Mathers & Associates. He continues to offer in-service training in death and violent crime investigation to the law enforcement community for increased effectiveness and productivity.
His many years of service with the F.B.I. includes 19 years of instruction to law enforcement agencies domestically, and across several continents, in the fields of death investigation, investigative psychology, and officer survival. He has consulted on criminal personality profiling nationally, and internationally.
S.A. Mathers spent 8 years investigating violent crime (sexual assaults and homicides) on Government/Indian Reservations, and in the 1980's, accompanied Seattle Police Homicide Detectives to homicide scenes for profiling and additional experience. From 1984 until his retirement, S.A. Mathers served the Seattle Division of the F.B.I. in the capacity of:
- Police Training Coordinator
- F.B.I. National Academy Coordinator
- Principal Firearms Instructor
- Principal Profiler
S.A. Mathers also administered and coordinated bank robbery matters for the Seattle Division. He developed and implemented training programs for bank personnel in handling bank robberies, kidnappings and extortions, and was responsible for developing and implementing Washington State's Bank Robbery Reward Program.
Nationally and internationally (utilizing translators and simultaneous translation,) Mr. Mathers has instructed in the fields of death investigation, investigative psychology, and officer survival. As the Police Training/National Academy Coordinator, he administered the National Executive Institute, Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, and Command College for Washington State and British Columbia. In addition, Mr. Mathers has testified on the use of deadly force.
